Providing Opportunities for Progression
Progression Agreements
The progression strand of the Kent and Medway Lifelong Learning Network seeks to strengthen links between partner organisations and to promote work to facilitate the progression of vocational learners into, and through, higher education. Recent research, quoted by HEFCE in their strategic plan, demonstrated that ‘while 89% of learners with 2 or more A levels progress to HE, only 50% of those with other qualifications do so’ (HEFCE 2006). The Kent and Medway LLN sees progression agreements as key to encouraging fair admissions systems for vocational learners and identifying and redressing any inequalities currently experienced within the existing system.
All Partners within the Lifelong Learning Network have signed up to the Kent and Medway Progression Accord. This document commits them to work in partnership with other institutions in the network to enhance the progression of vocational learners. The Progression Accord also commits all institutions to work collaboratively to create Progression Agreements where they can be seen to be to the benefit of vocational learners. Click here to find out more about how we are working to create Progression Agreements across the network.
LLN Coordinators in each institution have identified programmes where progression rates are comparatively low. They are working with programme leaders to establish internal and external programme to programme progression agreements. Sector wide progression agreements are also being created in areas where they can be seen to add value to the progression opportunities for learners. Click here to see the Progression Agreement for Nursing and Midwifery which is an example of a sector wide agreement.
