The work of the LLN
Providing Opportunities for Progression
The LLN so far
The work of the Lifelong Learning Network
During the first year of activity, the LLN focused on establishing a firm infrastructure for its developmental activities to help to enhance the progression of vocational learners. Some of these activities are described in more detail below.
All twelve partner institutions have signed up to a Progression Accord, committing their institution to work in partnership across the network to enhance progression and to promote the use of Progression Agreements between courses. Progression Agreements are being created where they can be seen to make a positive difference to the opportunities for learners. Some Progression Agreements are from individual courses into other individual courses, other Progression Agreements cover large numbers of courses. To find out more about the Progression Agreements which are in place at your institution, please contact your local LLN Coordinator
The Kent and Medway credit framework has been established and has been signed by all partners. This credit framework will make it easier for learners who have started their learning at one institution to move to complete a programme at another institution within the network. It is a very important step on the road to allowing learners to build up their degrees by using flexible learning opportunities and follow part time or work based routes to study. The credit framework has also established the outline for the Kent and Medway Lifelong Learning Award.
The Kent and Medway LLN has taken an active role in supporting development work for the new Diplomas, ready to be launched in September 2008. The LLN has supported a number of Local Development Partnerships and hosted a number of events to promote the diplomas within Higher Education Institutions.
The LLN has funded a number of development projects which have been hosted by our partner institutions and other stakeholders. Outcomes from these projects will be made available via the website as they come to a conclusion. Further information about projects which the LLN has supported
The end of the first year saw the completion of the Implementation Plan and the publication of a detailed Development Plan 2007-09. This document will steer the delivery of the LLN over the following two years and ensure targets and outcomes are achieved.
