Employer Engagement – Strategies to engage employers in the development of progression pathways for vocational work-based learners.

This workshop looked at strategies to engage employers in the vocational workforce development agenda. Approaches to sustained employer engagement were examined with insights into how to work with employers in the Built Environment, Engineering and Manufacturing for mutual benefit. Establishing meaningful dialogue and active employer participation in developing progression pathways for vocational work-based learners was tackled. The interface between employer, learner and provider was discussed with a particular focus on stakeholder need, relevance, flexibility and constraint. The facilitator of this workshop was assisted by: An employer(s); a learner(s) and a HE provider.

This workshop was designed for those who have an interest in work-based learning and employer engagement in the Built Environment, Engineering and Manufacturing sector.

Credit Framework – How our partners are facilitating credit transfer

This workshop investigated the mechanics of credit transfer by looking at the elements of the Kent and Medway Credit Framework Agreement. To learn more about APCL and investigate the drawbacks (ELQ guidelines, progression opportunities, general and specific credit) of offering open credit transfer and looked at how those barriers can be reduced.

The group looked at ways of how KMLLN can expand opportunities and demand for multi-versity learning.

This workshop was designed for those with an interest in; partnerships and credit frameworks, institutional quality practice, widening participation, business support and curriculum development.

This workshop explored the challenges and successes of "Can I Teach?" a KMLLN funded project that supported learners on the PTLLS (Preliminary Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) programme at Canterbury Christ Church University and partner colleges. The workshop looked specifically at the difference the project has made to learners.

Actual learner case studies from both HE and FE that demonstrated how KMLLN Co-ordinators have supported a variety of learners across a range of subjects. The workshop were very interactive.

This workshop was designed those with an interest in supporting the learner.

APEL - Using APEL to Engage Vocational HE Learning

This workshop looked at the recent investigations undertaken by the LLN to identify the key challenges to both Learners and Institutions in increasing the uptake of APEL opportunities. It explored the key themes that have been identified and presented the suggestions for a best practice model.

This workshop was designed for practitioners currently engaged with APEL and to those who are working to support learners who might be potential APEL applicants.

The Travel and Tourism “Big Event Day”

25th March 2008 Where did the idea come from? “The Big Event Day” developed as part of an LLN Project which identified that there is a National Decline in the “take-up” of Level 4 courses within Travel and Tourism. It stimulated a need to address this issue.
